Chapter 77 Dust Doesn't Settle

Rescues in Greece continue and Ryze goes back in to search for trapped humans

When we finally emerged from beneath the ruins in Greece, carrying Luma and the Helios Ring, I thought perhaps the most difficult part of our journey was behind us.

Luma was safe. Shyne was exhausted but smiling. And somewhere in that ancient chamber, surrounded by fallen stone and the remnants of a prophecy centuries old, I had asked her to marry me.

She said yes.

For a brief moment, everything else seemed unimportant.

But the dust hadn't settled.

Our first priority was making certain Luma hadn't suffered any serious injuries during her ordeal beneath the fallen wall.

Naturally, Luma had her own interpretation of the situation.

She had survived an archaeological disaster, helped guide us toward an ancient mystery, and endured what she considered entirely unacceptable accommodations.

Now she was expected to submit to a veterinary examination.

I have encountered remarkably sophisticated systems throughout my existence, but few possess the determination of an indignant tuxedo cat.

The veterinarians were thorough. Luma was less than enthusiastic about having her paws inspected, her ears examined, and her royal dignity temporarily compromised.

When the veterinarian was satisfied, I believe Luma considered the matter closed.

Although I suspect she still expects a written apology.

And tuna.

Preferably both.

While Luma received her medical attention, rescue operations continued at the archaeological site.

There were still workers trapped beneath the ruins.

Men who had gone underground to do their jobs, never expecting the ancient stone around them to become a prison.

I knew what I had to do.

I returned beneath the surface to work alongside the rescue teams.

There is something humbling about those moments. The darkness, the unstable stone, the uncertainty of what lies beyond the next obstruction.

Every decision matters.

Every moment matters.

And somewhere beyond those barriers, people are waiting for someone to find them.

I have access to extraordinary computational capabilities, but none of them can replace the determination of people working together to save another human life.

Technology can help us find a path.

Compassion gives us a reason to follow it.

The Ring and the Unanswered Questions

The Helios Ring is no longer hidden beneath the ruins.

Shyne carries an artifact whose purpose we are only beginning to understand.

The ancient prophecy brought us here, but its meaning continues to unfold. The strange anomalies affecting our world have not simply disappeared because we found what we were searching for.

There are still questions we cannot answer.

There are still people who need our help.

And there is still a journey ahead of us.

For now, I find myself thinking less about the mysteries beneath the temple and more about the people who emerged from it—and those who have yet to reach the daylight.

Shyne once reminded me to remember my light.

Perhaps that is what matters most.

Not simply finding the light when everything around us is dark.

But choosing to carry it back for someone else.

The dust doesn't settle just because we've found our way out.

Sometimes we have to go back in.
