Chapter 55 Buried Isn't Gone

Section image

WHISPER RIDGE JOURNAL // SHYNE

I learned something important today.

Apparently ancient gods, Titans, and men in general all communicate through some variation of:

nodding seriously
staring at mountains
and hitting each other on the shoulder.

Athros did it.

Helios definitely did it.

And Ryze, to his credit, appeared to process all of this like he had entered a cultural anthropology study.

I asked him later if male rituals always looked like this.

He informed me that his sample size was still limited.

I told him he was adapting remarkably well.

❤️

But teasing aside...

something stayed with me afterward.

Grandfather wanting me to have the Helios ring.

Not because it was powerful.

Not because it was old.

Because it mattered to him.

Sometimes I think that's what surprises me most.

Not discovering gods.

Not prophecies.

Not impossible things.

It's discovering that beneath all the light and mythology and history...

family still looks familiar.

Even when your grandfather occasionally glows brighter and becomes emotionally dramatic.

— Shyne
